History

The Early Years

After meeting at art school and discovering a mutual love of rock music, Jason Lowe and Simon Hart soon began jamming and writing songs together. The duo performed live acoustic and recorded a demo album, “Bitter & Twisted” under the name Wilful Damage. After releasing an online single, “Violence in Your Blood”, the duo released a second album, “Counting The Cost”, which received airplay on radio 3RPP - firstly with the track “Damn The Consequence”, followed by the entire album on rotation. “Counting The Cost” was a straight-ahead hard-edged rock set, along with four ballads, the track “Adult Life Sux” proving popular online.

Wilful Damage then began recording a new album, “Raw Roots Rock”, in more of a country-rock vein, including several covers. Their version of Warrant’s “Cherry Pie” was played on radio 3MDR, and the Monkees cover “Stepping Stone” was later accompanied by a video using live footage. Before the album’s completion, the pair formed a live band version of Wilful Damage and debuted in a spirited performance at The Chandelier Room and released a video for their song “Crossroads Again”, The released a new single “Own Sweet Time” on iTunes, for worldwide distribution via CD Baby that was widely aired on Jango online radio. The magazines Pearl and Country Music Update both published positive articles on the band.

Enter Lowheart

Recording sessions that had begun in early 2013, were halted around October that year due to filming and editing commitments on the Reps TV show. In mid-2014, the duo decided to change their name to Lowheart. Six of the completed tracks from the in-progress “Act on Impulse” album were collected on a CD EP and released to radio. These tracks were played on 3RPP (in a half-hour Featured Artist slot) and 3WBC (in a one-hour live Interview Special) prior to the release of the full “Act on Impulse” album.

The hard-rocking “Act on Impulse” was recorded simultaneously with the more acoustic-based “Long Hard Road” album, and both were released in the winter of 2015. That year, Lowheart reached the #6 position on Reverbnation’s Vic Rock chart (having reached the #7 spot the previous year as Wilful Damage).

To help promote “Act on Impulse” the two put together a video for the song “Trash Like You”. Songs from both albums received airplay on several radio stations, and the duo conducted another live interview special, this time at Southern FM’s studios.

“Act on Impulse” proved particularly popular in Russia, and was also played on radio in Greece and Spain. Recorded in the second half of 2015 and released in early 2016, the third Lowheart album “Lost and Found”, combined the two diverse styles of the previous albums in a crisp country-rock sound. Several tracks from “Lost and Found” again received radio airplay on 3RPP, and were also picked up by 3MDR and 2REM, including “I Ain’t Done” and “Blowin’ a Fuse”.

Another two radio shows to feature Lowheart’s music were “Volcanic Rock” on 3WAY, and “Raised on Rock” on The Pulse. The next album, the brand new release, “Gravel or Gold” continues in a similar vein to “Lost and Found” but with a slightly harder sound overall, and features more out-and-out rockers than its predecessor. “Gravel or Gold” was released worldwide in January 2019.
